Certified Medical Assistants

Certified and registered medical assistants are required to participate in continuing education programs to maintain their certification status. For example, certified medical assistants (CMA) through AAMA must acquire a total of sixty CEUs within five years.

CEU credits must be approved by the certifying body to maintain the certification status without having to take the written certification exam again to recertify.

It provides the necessary assurance that the medical assistant has attained the knowledge and skills which will enable him or her to competently provide the patient with quality care and strengthens confidence in their skills.

Documenting participation in continuing education courses proves that the individual is serious about his/her career. Even non-certified medical assistants benefit greatly by keeping their knowledge and skills current. In many cases the employer will appreciate their professionalism and dedication to the patients and reimburse them the cost for their work.

Continuing education works wonders for the resume! A wide variety of resources are available. Among the providers which offer continuing education programs for medical assistants are the following:
